El Grit0
The Sounds of the body
El Grito is a community gathering created around a simple need:
To have a place where we can freely use our voices and bodies.
A place where we don't have to worry about the neighbors, the walls, the person in the next room, how we sound, how we look, or whether our expression is “too much.”
A place where we can make noise, with our voice & with our bodies
We will move, breathe, sound, shake, dance, explore, encounter one another, and create space for whatever wants to emerge.
This is not a traditional dance class.
It is not about learning choreography or performing.
It is an invitation into expression, sensation, presence, and connection.
WHERE IS THIS COMING FROM?
This space comes from a personal craving.
Lately, through my work with people, I have been noticing how many of us are carrying voices, sounds, movements, emotions, and impulses that don't have enough room in our everyday lives.
In the private sessions I hold the need to scream becomes present and as I recommend the person to practice at home they express they would like to —but they can't.
They live in an apartment where they don't want the neighbors to hear them.
They live with a partner, family member, children, or roommates.
They don't feel comfortable making sounds when other people are around.
Sometimes we don't even realize how much we are containing until we are given a place where we don't have to.
And I realized that I have been craving this kind of space too.
A space where we don't have to produce something.
A space where we can gather as a community and simply practice being more fully expressed.
So El Grito was born from that craving.
WHO IS THIS FOR?
This is for anyone who feels the desire to:
-
Use their voice more freely
-
Make sound without worrying about how it sounds
-
Scream, shout, sigh, laugh, groan, sing, or simply make noise
-
Release physical and emotional tension through movement
-
Explore impulses that are difficult to access in everyday life
-
Move without having to look good
-
Experience their body without having to perform for anyone
-
Reconnect with parts of themselves that have been quiet, contained, or controlled
-
Experience being witnessed without having to explain themselves
-
Play, experiment, and discover
-
Feel less alone in their experience of being human
-
You want to reconnect with spontaneity
-
You want to experience movement as a form of listening rather than achievement.
-
You feel like you hold your breath or your voice around other people

A COMMUNITY SPACE
El Grito is intentionally donation-based.
This is important to me.
I wanted to create a space that is accessible
A space where we can gather because there is something we want to explore together—not because we are purchasing a product.
If you are able and want to contribute, you can.
If you cannot, you are still welcome.
The donation structure allows this space to remain open, experimental, and community-oriented while supporting the continuation of the gatherings.
